On a bright sunny day, Henry (Henry Bederski) is at his favorite watering hole having a few beers. He staggers out of the bar and wanders around the streets drinking more beer. As he is walking he is being stalked by a werewolf (David “The Rock” Nelson). The werewolf jumps him and kills him. Henry’s brother, Ted (Ted Brooks) comes by and finds his brother’s dead body. Ted runs and gets their other brother, Conrad (Conrad Brooks). Conrad, being a savvy dude, realizes that Henry was killed by a werewolf. He tells Ted to stay with Henry while he takes his Uzi and hunts the werewolf.
Conrad heads toward the local cemetery where he believes he will find the werewolf, since that is where they usually hang out. Ted follows Conrad to the cemetery. When he catches up to Conrad, he warns him that the Uzi won’t due him any good since he doesn’t have any silver bullets. Ted says he has an aluminum bat that he is sure will dispatch the werewolf. Conrad agrees that the bat is a good idea.
The two men spit up to look for the werewolf. Ted runs into a man (David Nelson) who says he is the caretaker of the cemetery. They talk for a moment and Ted leaves. After Ted is gone the caretaker turns into the werewolf. He then stalks and kills Ted. After that, he tries to kill a marble statue of a man. Conrad finds Ted’s dead body. Vowing to avenge his brothers, Conrad goes off looking for the werewolf and a big showdown.
“Conrad Brooks VS Werewolf” was released in 1994 and was written, produced and directed by David “The Rock” Nelson. He also plays the werewolf. It is an Independent American basement budget horror comedy short.
Conrad Brooks, who played himself in the film, was a “B” movie actor who worked a lot with director Ed Wood in the 50’s and 60’s. There are some references made to the Ed Wood and the film “Plan 9 From Outer Space” 1958 in the movie. Brooks played a lot of bit parts and walk-ons in many of Wood’s productions.
David “The Rock” Nelson is a former boxer who turned movie maker. He has been making dumb “backyard” homemade monster movies for decades. He has created dozens of videos and shorts over the years, many of them horror related and all of them silly. Many of the ‘actors’ in his films are friends and relatives. Some of his films feature cameos of other horror genre creators such as Fred Olen Ray, Roger Corman, Forrest J Ackerman and Rick Koz (the guy who played Svengoolie), to name a few. Many of his shorts can be found in compilation DVDs and old VHS tapes.
The movie was a little funny in sort of a lame way. There’s a lot of camp and unintentional humor throughout the short. There are moments of amusement but at 43 minutes in length, it’s still too long. At one point Conrad had to feed Ted his lines. He only had two of them. The movie is rife with bad acting, bad editing, bad dialogue and bad special effects. Even though the film is short, it still has a lot of padding to annoy the viewer.
