Dr. Kim (Kim Ki-Ju) is a scientist whose controversial theory about dinosaurs has left him ostracized from the scientific community.  He believes that dinosaurs still exist in the polar caps and that climate change is causing the caps to melt thereby allowing the dinosaurs to thaw and bring about world destruction.  To escape ridicule, Dr. Kim decided to take his young daughter, Sohee (Kim Da-hye), and become a recluse while still looking for actual proof of his claim.

Kang Ok-hee (Nam Hye-Gyeong) is a young reporter who is sent on an assignment to find Dr. Kim and get a story about his theory.   When she arrives at Dr. Kim’s residence, she is turned away.  Outside of the house a woman arrives to say that she is the new housekeeper.  Kang tells the young woman that the position has been filled.  She then takes the woman’s place and tells Dr. Kim that she is the new housekeeper.  Dr. Kim believes her.  Kang and young Sohee become friends.  Eventually, Dr. Kim finds out that she is really a reporter, so he kicks her out.  Kang refuses to leave and takes up residence in a tent outside the house.

Sohee finds two large eggs behind the house, at the foot of a mountain.  One egg has hatched and pieces of shell are scattered around.  Sohee develops an infection from pathogens released when she touched the eggshell.  Kang finds her and takes her to Dr. Lee’s (Moon tai-sun) office.  In the meantime, Dr. Kim finds footprints near the seashore he believes it is proof of his claims.  When he returns home to spread the news he learns of Sohee’s illness.  He is then criticized by Dr. Lee for going off and continuing his research while Sohee got sick.

Kang sees a dinosaur coming out of the sea and takes some pictures of it.  She rushes to the doctor’s office where Dr. Kim is waiting for his daughter to regain consciousness.  Kang shows Kim the pictures she took.  It appears that Dr. Kim’s theory is correct as dinosaurs begin appearing and ravaging the planet.

“War of the God Monsters” AKA “The Flying Monster” AKA “Bicheongoesu” was released in 1984 and was directed by Jeong-yong Kim.  It is a Korian kaiju science fiction movie.  At one point the movie was thought to be lost.  The film was never released to American theaters.  It did not get an American video release until 2021.

The monsters in the film are from left over stock footage from several of Tsuburaya Productions TV’s “Ultraman” series as well as some footage from a Taiwanese film “Zhu Hong Wu” 1971 AKA “The Founding of Ming Dynasty” 1971.  Additional story footage was shot to incorporate a plot surrounding the videos of rampaging monsters.  The actual monsters in the film are Pestar, Seagorath, Seamons, Bemstar, Terochilus, Verokron, Dorigon and two random dragons from the Taiwanese film “The Founding of Ming Dynasty”.

I had an internal battle with myself on whether or not to call this a dinosaur movie, or even a slurpasaur film.  I decided that it was more of a kaiju film than your standard dino-flic.

The Movie isn’t great, but it has a childish appeal to it.  If you are a fan of Ultraman monsters, then this may be your cup of tea.
